staging Harrisville
As part of the interview process for finding a real estate agent to (potentially) list the Harrisville house, I asked each of them to walk through the house with me and give me their advice on the best way to 'stage' the house for sale. According to Nina, this can make a big difference in attracting buyers. What follows is a description mostly of what needs to be removed to best present the house. A few things may need to be added: bedspreads, pillows.
Since this weekend will bring many of us here the items that will need to be removed should be claimed this weekend and taken away. At the end of this document is a list of storage places should you like to take something but are unable to take it with you.

Pottery could stay for the showings. Most of it appears to be Libow. I would think that the Libow Potter's among us, Kelly and Brian, would have the first claim on them.
dad's paintings and sketches and water colors
I realize these items are the most valued by the family. A few of them, I would like to borrow for showing the house, like the Harrisville mill buildings, the western landscape over the fire place, a couple of the water colors and some of the trace sketches.
It would seem reasonable that if the artwork has you as a subject, you get to keep that piece
I propose listing the rest of dad's work on a spreadsheet where we can all list our 1st choice 2nd choice etc, for the pieces we would like to have. I further propose that we have some kind of a rank choice selection process where If nobody has also selected your top choice you get to keep it. For now I will work on getting the pieces listed in a spreadsheet. I invite participation and ideas for the actual process. The first question will be whether or not we extend the process to include all the cousins.
Most of dad's artwork will need to be down for showing the house. I prefer not putting them in a closet and hope that we can arrive at a process before July 4th.

dad's artwork + 2 Copiague pieces & proposed game rules
There will be a game played sometime during July 4th after 2pm. The result of the game will be possession and ownership of dad's artwork
I have catalogued dad's artwork in a this spreadsheet. Not included are pieces in which alive family members are the subject. My assumption is those pieces will go to their subjects. Currently there are twenty six pieces in the catalogue. Megan will forward me photos of dad's work at the Copiague house and I will add them. So the catalogue will be of dad's artwork that could potentially be selected and given to family members. Then you will get a new version of this email with an updated link and siblings will get new invitations to edit.
If you know of any other of dad's artwork that should be in this catalogue please let me know and if possible send me a photo of it. Maybe there we be yet another version of the catalogue.
the game play
Ideally each sibling would get their first choice of artwork. Probably for that to happen we need to communicate with each other and try to have first picks that are not already coveted by another sibling. But that may not be the case. If, in a given round of choices, there are multiple people who want the same piece then some kind of coin toss will occur. The losers would somehow have their choices re-ordered (2nd becomes 1st, etc) until they get to an available piece. Once everybody has a piece from round 1 we go to round 2. Then we repeat until all the artwork has been distributed.
Jim's grandchildren
The spreadsheet has just the siblings names and is only editable by them but I hope that grandpa Jim's artwork will be available to his grandchildren. Grandchildren have viewing access to the catalogue. Grandchildren should let their parents know which pieces they would like. I would suggest that the siblings keep their first won choice and then rank their remaining choices to reflect the pieces your kids love. And then win them and give those pieces to them.
help
I NEED HELP IN FIGURING THIS OUT. Like how to do the math and how to do the coin toss. if you understand the game help your parent.
game rules
- Bring your laptops or something that allows you to edit the shared google spread sheet
- On July 4 at 2pm (or a time later selected by me) all choices are final. You will no longer be able to reorder. If you made a mistake and have two number 1 choices, the second one will be made a 0 (not played). If you don't have a choice for a round and that number comes up you will sit out that round.
- There will be a number of rounds. A round is complete when each sibling bidding has a peice.
- a sibling can sit out a round and not bid
- If a sibling has no additional choices then that sibling is no longer bidding
- Round start with everyone's 1st choice. The next round uses the next choice. The next choice is determined by the rules below.
a typical round
For all the pieces with only one bidder
you keep that piece
tie breaking, random number generator
- We will agree on one person to deal with the deck of cards. Shuffles then deals one card to each of the tied. Then the dealer turns them over one by one and the winner is the one with the highest value card AKQJ1098765432 with ties broken by SpadesHeartsDiamondsClubs.
- The process will be repeated for all the other pieces of artwork with multiple bidders.
- At that point all the losers have a sub-round. one is subtracted from each of their remaining choices creating a new 1st choice for round1, or new 2nd choice for round 2 if second round etc. if that piece is already gone they reduce by 1 again until they are bidding on an available piece. Now calculate the winners from the subgroup and go back to step 1 if there are losers.
- Everyone should now have won a piece for the round. The round is over.
subsequent rounds
If one of the round's players had skipped the previous round then cross out what would have been the previous round's choice and subtract one from the remaining choices.
Then
- Each player's next round choice is examined. If that painting is already gone, cross it out and subtract 1 from each of the remaining choices. Repeat if necessary. If a player has no choices left they are done and out of the game.
- Play the round as above.
game over
Game is over when either no artwork is left or there are no more bidders.
