staging Harrisville
As part of the interview process for finding a real estate agent to potentially list the Harrisville house, I asked each of them to walk through the house with me and give me their advice on the best way to 'stage' the house for sale. According to Nina, this can make a big difference in attracting buyers. What follows is a description mostly of what needs to be removed to best present the house. A few things may need to be added, bedspreads, pillows.
Since this weekend will bring many of us here the items that will need to be removed should be claimed this weekend and taken away. At the end of this document is a list of storage places should you like to take something but are unable to take it with you.
photos and knicknacks and things
All the photos, knicknacks and things need to be gone in order to show the house.
clutter to be removed
The link is to an album of images of all the clutter that needs to be removed to sell the house
living room
Here the big things to get rid of are the bookshelf (and most all its books) and the desk at the foot of the stairs. On the other side of the room is the built in bookshelf that needs to be pared down to just a few books + the books saved from removed shelf unit. There is a stereo there to be removed.
back bedroom
The three items to go are circled in yellow
family room
The consensus was to get rid of the marked stuff a bunch of stuff in the clutter album and to move mom's desk in front of the that funky built-in to and the heavy piece to where the desk was. The drawing table will stay as part of the staging, perhaps a little to the right side of the sliding glass door with maybe some of those trace drawings displayed as an inspiration for what a good place this would be for creativity and hobbies.
laundry room
All those cabinets.
bunk bed room
Pretty much all the furniture random boxes and cloths hanger cases need to go Images are in the clutter album
master bedroom
chair and stool
pottery
Pottery could stay for the showings. Most of it appears to be Libow. I would think that the Libow Potter's among us, Kelly and Brian, would have the first claim on them.
dad's paintings and sketches and water colors
I realize these items are the most valued by the family. A few of them, I would like to borrow for showing the house, like the Harrisville mill buildings, the western landscape over the fire place, a couple of the water colors and some of the trace sketches.
It would seem reasonable that if the artwork has you as a subject, you get to keep that piece
I propose listing the rest of dad's work on a spreadsheet where we can all list our 1st choice 2nd choice etc, for the pieces we would like to have. I further propose that we have some kind of a rank choice selection process where If nobody has also selected your top choice you get to keep it. If others have then there is some kind of a coin toss like random process in which the winner gets the piece and the losers reorder their rankings with their 2nd coice now becoming a first choice, their third choice becomes second etc. At the point where everybody has one piece we would repeat the process untill all the artwork is distributed.
For now I will work on getting the pieces listed in a spreadsheet. I invite participation and ideas for the actual process. The first question will be whether or not we extend the process to include all the cousins.
Most of dad's artwork will need to be down for showing the house. I prefer not putting them in a closet and hope that we can arrive at a process before July 4th.
