	I stopped by during the work on 4/27/24 four times times. I observed and chatted up the workers. They seemed friendly and competent, then I saw the tree. 	I am still unclear on what they did, on what happened when I wasn't observing. Perhaps we could put together or observations and get a better picture of our subterranean world. 	# When I first got there, a little after 9, the whole was ~9-10 feet deep extending from the manhole in front of Richard and Annie's about 12' west. The hole was dry. I asked where the pipe was and the woman worker indicated that they found it, it was in the south bank of the excavation and it was an 8" clay pipe.		# When I first got there, a little after 9, the whole was ~9-10 feet deep extending from the manhole in front of Richard and Annie's about 12' west. 	# At a little after 11, when I got back, the existing 8" clay pipe was exposed. They had a hose in the, now wet and smelly, hole, pumping it out while adding 3/4 stone to the hole. I talked to the woman worker and another worker and they reported that the pipe did not got to the manhole but y'd into big sewer further downstream in the St John's direction. The manhole was open and I looked inside. There was a roaring flow coming into it from the north ~10-12' down. Maybe it was a 10" pipe. There was another flow coming in from the east, about 5' down, an 8" green plastic pipe. (The one Jack French put in for the 3 1998 houses). Then there was the flow going out heading toward St.Johns St. I asked where was the smelly water coming from, as there was no indication it was coming from the exposed 8" clay pipe. I got a vague non-answer. I asked what they were going to do. They said they were going to re-route the clay pipe from to the manhole, implying that was where it should have always gone, to allow for inspection, cleaning and maintenance.		# At a little after 11, when I got back, the existing 8" clay pipe was exposed. 			I was somewhat unsatisfied that the problem was found and corrected. Perhaps it was since I only observed so little. Can others share their observations and conversations?
