Why do I feel so deflated at the end of this year. The end of every year has been hard, many students don't step up, the year fizzles without effort but with plenty of complaining. The administration wants none of it, pass most everyone and I'd be a good teacher. So why not? Grades don't matter to me, what am I.. offended that students don't buy into my vision of what passing entails. I don't think my standards are high, they are more like what is just bearable, any less and I can't really justify doing the job or keeping my game ratcheted up.

A logical criticism would be that I fail to get students to work. In my mind I believe that the bar for the grade is attainable by all, with effort. The effort would be well worth it but that's not how the struggling students see it.
